Event Notes: Jakarta To Prepare BMX Bicycle Racing Circuit Ahead Of 2018 Asian Games

The Jakarta provincial administration "announced plans to prepare a BMX bicycle racing circuit ahead of the 2018 Asian Games." The city's sports and youth council said that Ceger, East Jakarta, "will be the perfect venue for the circuit, as Jakarta will host the regional sporting event along with Palembang, South Sumatra" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 6/9).

Ten large fan zones in host cities are the center of concerns "about a possible terrorist attack on the Euro 2016 football tournament which starts in France on Friday." A French security source said, "It's as if we have created 10 open-air Bataclans and invited the jihadists to do their worst." The Bataclan concert hall "was one of the targets of the three-pronged jihadist attack on the Paris area on November 13." The organizers of Euro 2016 admit that "they considered scrapping the official zones where fans can mingle, watch games on giant screens and listen to pop concerts." They finally decided that "the alternative was worse" (London INDEPENDENT, 6/9).
