BBC Revives Old Highlights Show After 'Wimbledon 2Day' Debacle

The BBC "scrapped its much-derided" tennis highlights program, Wimbledon 2Day, after the show was panned by critics as focusing on "a giddy mix of inane tweets and chat" at the expense of action from matches at last year’s championships, according to Patrick Foster of the London TELEGRAPH. The corporation confirmed that it would revert to using the name Today At Wimbledon for the daily BBC Two highlights show, which will still be presented by Clare Balding, promising that the program will have a "traditional look and feel" this year. Hundreds of viewers "complained about the decision to rechristen last year’s show as Wimbledon 2Day." The level of public anger at the change was so great that the broadcaster "was forced to revert back to its customary format halfway through last year’s championships, although it kept the Wimbledon 2Day name." The BBC said that it "was restoring the Today at Wimbledon title, as well as the traditional highlights format." The corporation added that "the show would be hosted from a new studio, next to Henman Hill, overlooking the All England Club grounds" (TELEGRAPH, 6/7).
