Marketplace Roundup: Portuguese Football Federation Signs Deal With CR7 Footwear

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) "has struck a deal" with CR7 Footwear. The brand, launched last year by national team player Cristiano Ronaldo, "will supply shoes to all Portuguese players and officials whenever they appear at formal events as representatives of the Portuguese national team." The men’s senior squad "marked the deal by wearing CR7 branded footwear at an official reception" with Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (SOCCEREX, 6/8).

Brasileiro side Flamengo "signed two short-term shirt sponsorship deals." For their next 12 games, the Rio de Janeiro-based team "will have the logo of local online food distributor iFood on their sleeves." Spanish lighter brand Clipper’s name "will be placed on the lower-back of both home and away shirts for the same period of games, while it will also be entitled to create Flamengo-branded products." The short-term contracts "will run until the end of July." However, according to MKTesportivo, Clipper’s licensing agreement "will be valid for two years" (SOCCEREX, 6/8).

League Championship side Queens Park Rangers signed a new shirt sponsorship deal with betting exchange Smarkets. The one-year deal will see the Smarkets brand displayed on the front of the R’s home, away and third strips for the entire '16-17 season. Smarkets joined QPR’s portfolio of sponsors last season (QPR).

League Championship club Norwich City is reportedly "in discussions with online betting company 888 Sport as a possible successor to Aviva as main club sponsor." The bookmaker "is one of a number of companies who have held talks over a potential commercial tie-up but no deal has yet been concluded to replace the insurance giant, which becomes a community partner after eight years as Norwich City’s main sponsor." An announcement on the main sponsor "is expected within the next few weeks" (EASTERN DAILY PRESS, 6/8).

China’s Ministry of Education and Nike agreed to a three-yeal deal on campus sports. This comes as part of the China-U.S. Cultural Exchange in Beijing, which was co-chaired by China VP Liu Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. Under the agreement, the two parties "will work together to help develop the 'culture of sport and physical activity in schools across China.'" More specifically, the U.S.-based company "will help train as many as 7,000 teachers in order to deliver quality and engaging sports lessons for the students." Additionally, Nike will offer coaching and physical education resources to more than 300 schools. As well as partnerships, Nike "will also work closely with campus leagues in both soccer and basketball" (YUTANG SPORTS, 6/8).

Sports agency Jung von Matt/sports has added German Force India driver Nico Hülkenberg to its client list. The Hamburg-based agency will be in charge of Hülkenberg's int'l brand communication, from strategy over creation to execution. JvM/sports did not reveal the deal's length (JvM/sports).

The German Handball Federation (DHB) has agreed to a new partnership with car care brand Nigrin. As part of the three-year deal, Nigrin will receive ad space on LED boards and logo presence on the German national team's jersey. Financial terms of the partnership were not revealed. The DHB also signed a new sponsorship deal with system specialist Albrecht Jung. The company will receive ad space on LED boards and logo presence on the men's youth national teams. The deal will run until Dec. 18. Financial details were not revealed (Lagardère Sports).

Second Bundesliga side Hannover 96 and betting service Tipwin have extended their partnership. Tipwin will continue to receive ad space in camera view at home games. Lagardère Sports, the club's marketing partner, did not disclose the length or financial terms of the deal (Lagardère Sports).

Turkish Airlines has taken over the Champs Elysees. A "Meet Europe’s Best" banner will adorn the boulevard’s 1.9km to reflect the carrier’s #MeetEuropesBest campaign, which highlights UEFA Euro 2016. The carrier is the official airline partner of Euro 2016. The banners will run along the whole length of one side of the Champs Elysees, and will provide a visual for fans and tourists. The banners will be in place for the duration of the competition (Turkish Airlines).

Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille has added German tennis player Alexander Zverev to its family of ambassadors (Richard Mille).

Booking.com signed former French footballer Thierry Henry as the company's official ambassador for the '16 summer of sport (Booking.com).

Germany and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil has become the latest Laureus Sport for Good Ambassador (Laureus).
