Football Notes: U.S. Soccer Head Shoots Down Rumors Of Combined Gold Cup, Copa America

U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati "shot down rumors of combining the Gold Cup and Copa America" for one major football competition in the Americas. A report on Monday stated that CONCACAF and CONMEBOL "are putting the finishing touches on agreeing to merge the two major tournaments on a permanent basis," with the competition being held in the U.S. every four years. Gulati "denied that the creation of any such event had been discussed by CONMEBOL and CONCACAF officials, much less close to being finalized." He called the reports suggesting as much "completely inaccurate" (GOAL, 6/7).

FIFA has given the FA of Zambia three months to "implement a new constitution or risk being suspended from all footballing activities." FIFA Manager for Football Members Primo Corvoro has urged the new FAZ exec committee to "quickly amend the constitution before September month end." Corvoro has told ZNBC Sport that "all member associations who fail to meet the deadline will face sanctions" (ZNBC, 6/8).
