Event Notes: Brazil To Host 2019 Copa America Tournament

Alejandro Dominguez
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez said that Brazil "will host the 2019 Copa America tournament." The tournament normally rotates among South American hosts in an alphabetical order, but Brazil "did not host in 2015 due to the country’s commitments for the World Cup and Olympics." Chile hosted in '15 and "won on its home soil." The tournament "is also expected to return to its normal format" in '19, with 12 teams -- the 10 CONMEBOL nations plus two guest nations -- competing instead of 16 (SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, 6/7).

Int'l Paralympic Committee Swimming and IPC Powerlifting announced that Mexico City will jointly host their 2017 World Championships. Around 550 swimmers from more than 60 countries are expected to compete at the Francisco Marquez Olympic Swimming Pool, while more than 360 powerlifters from 65 countries will gather in the Juan de la Barrera Olympic Gymnasium. The confirmation of the Para swimming Championships joins the Para powerlifting edition, which was announced in '15 (IPC).
