The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced Tokyo Metro Co. and East Japan Railway Company as Tokyo 2020 official partners, the second domestic tier of the Tokyo 2020 sponsorship program. Tokyo Metro and JR East have been jointly attributed the category "Passenger Rail Transportation Services." The addition of the two companies brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 domestic partners to 36, including 21 official partners (Tokyo 2020).
The PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee signed a memorandum of understanding with the Seoul Metropolitan Government for Games support. Under the agreement, Seoul will help promote the PyeongChang 2018 Games through city-owned communication tools such as billboards and outdoor large-screen displays, leaflets, newsletters and its official website. The metropolis will also provide workforce and resources support for Games operations, various cultural events and the PyeongChang 2018 torch relay (PyeongChang 2018).
The impeachment trial of Brazil's suspended President Dilma Rousseff "will conclude in the middle of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August, according to a timeline decided on Monday by the Senate impeachment commission." Interim President Michel Temer's allies in the Senate had "sought to speed up proceedings" but commission Chair Senator Raimundo Lira "stuck with the original calendar that sets Aug. 16 as the deadline for ending the trial" (REUTERS, 6/6).
Twenty weightlifters have "tested positive in the reanalysis of doping samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics." The Int'l Weightlifting Federation said in a statement that it had been informed by the IOC that "the re-tests had revealed 10 positives from Beijing in 2008 and another 10 from London." The IWF did not mention any names or nationalities, but said that "medal winners were involved." The 10 positives from Beijing, it said, were "presumed" positives, "meaning the analysis of 'B' samples still needs to be completed." The 10 from London were "confirmed positives" (PA, 6/6).
