Celtic Fans Fund New Manager's $3.5M Salary In One Day With Season Ticket Surge

Scottish Premiership side Celtic fans "have made a season-ticket surge to cover the cost of the Brendan Rodgers revolution in just one day," according to Michael Gannon of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The Hoops coffers "were swelled after thousands snapped up briefs on the first day of the general sale that wiped out" the new manager’s £2.4M ($3.5M) annual salary in a matter of hours. The club was on Monday "still tallying the ticket rush but it’s believed the stampede could boost fan revenue" to almost £25M ($36M) -- with sold-out signs also hanging in front of several hospitality sections. Parkhead sources "charged past the 41,000 total of last term and added thousands more on day one of the sales." The "maximum up for grabs this term has been capped at 52,000" and it is felt that it is "not out of reach." Punters "flocked to the ground" Monday with queues reported from 6:30am -- three hours before the briefs went on sale -- "with some diehards even camping out overnight." The "incredible scenes at Celtic came just days after a season-book blitz at rivals Rangers where 33,000 snapped up renewals" (DAILY RECORD, 6/7).
