Football Notes: Pope Francis Urges Infantino To Bring 'Order And Honesty' To FIFA

FIFA Presdient Gianni Infantino "presented the Pope with a Champions League winners medal." Pope Francis has urged Infantino to bring “order and honesty” to football’s world governing body. During a meeting at the Vatican on Sunday, the Pope told Infantino: “Clear paths, put things back in order and honesty. And football is a weapon, in a good way, it serves as an educational and social integration with the kids.” The Pope added that “with soccer, go forward showing honesty and cleanliness.” In response, Infantino said, “We want to do just that” (CATHOLIC HERALD, 6/1).

The All Nepal FA on Wednesday reinstated four suspended officials -- three vice-chairmen and a member -- after FIFA "directed it to do so and hold fresh elections at the earliest." VPs Karma Chhiring Sherpa, Bijay Narayan Manandhar and Kishor Rai and member Pankaj Nembang "were reinstated" on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mani Kunwar, Bir Bahadur Khadka and Santosh Baniya, who were promoted to the positions of VP, resigned "in a bid to solve the dispute and hold the fresh elections" (THE HIMALAYAN TIMES, 6/1).

UEFA is launching, in cooperation with Brandsays, a tool which will help fans to recognize unauthorized and rogue websites offering tickets for UEFA Euro 2016. At present, there is a range of sites on which tickets are being illegitimately offered for sale, but sometimes these are offers of tickets which they do not have or which sometimes turn out to be fake. Brandsays offers a completely new and simple solution to this serious problem around Euro 2016 tickets by alerting users to potentially dangerous websites. By downloading a browser utility tool, Internet users will receive a warning on their screen if they are about to land on website considered authorized or unauthorized to sell Euro 2016 tickets (UEFA).
