Football Notes: Liga MX Side Chivas Guadalajara Owner Launches Chivas TV

Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara Owner Jorge Vergara launched Chivas TV, which will broadcast the team's home games. Vergara's goal "is to reach a larger audience through the Internet and theaters." He said on social media, "What I guarantee, above all to the fans, is that they are going to see Chivas in a different, unique form that has not previously been seen. What is coming will be a show for the fan. Welcome to Chivas TV." Vergara added that the channel's coverage of matches will be commented on by fans selected in competitions (LA AFICIÓN, 5/21).

U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati reportedly said that "no decision has been made about hosting the 2026 World Cup nor has the federation offered to co-host the tournament with Mexico." Football officials from both countries told ESPN last week that "initial discussions were held on the sidelines of the FIFA Congress taking place in Mexico City this week, with further meetings expected to take place over the coming months and that a joint bid between the two countries had already won early support from FIFA President Gianni Infantino." On Friday, Gulati told the L.A. Times that "no such agreement had been discussed." He said, "We haven't made a decision about the [2026] World Cup. Until we know what the rules are of the bid process -- which won't be until October at the earliest -- we're not going to be making a decision" (ESPN, 5/21).

Dutch side FC Twente officials said on Friday that they "are to go to court in an effort to stop the KNVB demoting the club to the Jupiler League." The Dutch FA’s players council said earlier this week the club "should be sent down one league next season for failing to get its finances in order." The club had "risked having its professional licence removed altogether" (DUTCH NEWS, 5/20).
