Emir Of Qatar Reportedly Interested In Meeting With Barcelona Execs

Next Monday, following the Copa del Rey final, Barcelona's first team "and the majority of its execs will travel to Qatar for a friendly vs. Al-Ahli," according to Fernando Polo of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. The club "sees the trip as an opportunity to strengthen its ties with Qatar Sports Investment and current shirt sponsor Qatar Airways" just as it is "trying to sign a principal shirt sponsorship for the coming seasons." The Emir of Qatar has expressed "his desire to meet with Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Marketing VP Manel Arroyo." Despite "insisting that the option of renewing with Qatar Airways remains alive, Barcelona has indicated there are two possible alternatives: a U.S.-based corporation and a company based in Asia" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 5/16).
