Executive Transactions

Former India cricket captain RAHUL DRAVID and ex-Sri Lanka captain MAHELA JAYAWARDENA have been appointed to the ICC Cricket Committee, adding more cricketing experience to the list of people already on the committee. Dravid and Jayawardena played 1,161 int'l matches between them from '96-15, and each has been appointed for a three-year term. The ICC also announced CLAIRE FURLONG has been appointed as the organization's strategic communications GM. She will take up her position on July 17. Furlong is currently head of sport at Hanover Sport with clients including the England & Wales Cricket Board, NFL and Asian Football Confederation (ICC). ... After Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart's relegation into the second division, club President BERND WAHLER "stepped down" while coach JÜRGEN KRAMNY returned to the second team. Stuttgart "reacted on the club's second relegation after 41 years, as Wahler stepped down from his office with immediate effect." Kramny, who was promoted to the head coach position "after the dismissal of ALEXANDER ZORNIGER back in November, returned to his previous position as the contractual relationship ended with the relegation" (IANS, 5/15). ... World Rugby appointed WENDY LUHABE and MERVYN DAVIES to its "newly-appointed Executive Committee." Luhabe has "more than 26 years of experience as a non-executive director in diverse industries and public sector companies." She "also has 24 years of experience as a social entrepreneur" (CNBC AFRICA, 5/13). ... Bundesliga side Schalke coach ANDRE BREITENREITER's tenure in Gelsenkirchen "is ending after only one season." Ahead of the club's final match against Hoffenheim, "the club said via Twitter that the Royal Blues and the coach would be going their separate ways." The 42-year-old was "brought to Gelsenkirchen from relegated Paderborn at the end of last season." Initially, Breitenreiter "won the affection of much of the Royal Blue faithful for his relatively down-to-earth manner." But Schalke management "grew frustrated with the team's inconsistency" (DW, 5/14).
