Red Bull's Max Verstappen Becomes F1's Youngest Race Winner At Spanish GP

Red Bull's Max Verstappen "took a sensational maiden victory as Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg crashed out" of the Spanish Grand Prix, according to Andrew Benson of the BBC. Verstappen held off Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen after teammate Daniel Ricciardo "took a three-stop strategy." Verstappen "made his two-stop work to become the youngest winner in history." Verstappen -- only 18 -- had Räikkönen "within a second of him for the last 22 laps but did not put a wheel wrong to take his first win on his debut for Red Bull, following his promotion from junior team Toro Rosso ahead of this race." Verstappen is the first ever Dutch winner of an F1 race (BBC, 5/15). REUTERS' Alan Baldwin reported Sebastian Vettel, "the previous youngest race winner" thanks to his 2008 Italian Grand Prix victory for Toro Rosso at the age of 21, was third for Ferrari (REUTERS, 5/15). MUNDO DEPORTIVO reported a total of 87,245 fans attended the race. A year ago, the event drew a crowd of 86,700 (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 5/15).
