Liverpool Denied 400 Extra Europa League Final Tickets

Liverpool has "been denied access to 400 extra Europa League final tickets" as UEFA plans to leave the in-demand seats empty for next week’s Basel showpiece, according to Oliver Todd of the London DAILY MAIL. The club was "originally only allocated 9,000 tickets but after opponents Sevilla failed to sell 2,000" of its batch UEFA sent 1,600 more in the Merseyside club’s direction. Despite "huge demand" -- more than 17,000 Liverpool fans applied for tickets -- European football’s governing body said that it "will hold back the remaining 400 to split up opposing supporters." A UEFA spokesperson said, "1,600 tickets were given to Liverpool, so the total is 10,600 for Liverpool. The remaining 400 returned by Sevilla could not be given to Liverpool to allow proper segregation" (DAILY MAIL, 5/12). In Liverpool, Paul Philbin reported Liverpool fans "are still unable to collect their tickets from the club despite a number of fans receiving phone calls to be told when to pick them" up Thursday. Fans who bought in the Priority Right Holders sale "were told over the phone that they could collect their tickets for the final" ahead of Wednesday's Chelsea game "only to be told they had yet to arrive from UEFA." (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 5/12).

TICKET PRICES: The Scotland DAILY RECORD reported Liverpool fans "will have to fork out" as much as £700 ($1,012) if they want to watch their team take on Sevilla. Tickets are "going on average for a staggering" £550 ($795) on Ticketbis. Briefs for the Euro showpiece are 158% "more than the average of the past four Europa Finals" (DAILY RECORD, 5/12).
