Facility Notes: Construction Of Development Center To Begin At Sydney's Moore Park

The "state-of-the-art" Australian Rugby Development Centre at Moore Park, which will become "the new home of the Wallabies," has been given the "tick of approval and construction will commence at the end of the month." The Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, Australian Rugby Union and University of Technology Sydney, in partnership with the federal and New South Wales governments, "are set to confirm the high-performance centre that will be constructed at the northern end of the members car park" facing Moore Park Road. The ARDC "will become the new base of the Wallabies, Wallaroos and men's and women's sevens squads when they are in Australia." The center has been funded by A$20M ($14.7M) from the federal and state governments "and is expected to be completed" in '17 (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 5/12).

Construction of a "futuristic monorail training system" in Lambourn, England, has begun with "hopes the project could be operational early next year." Turkish industrialist Mehmut Kurt has earmarked over £20M ($28.9M) for the mile long monorail which will "carry the units which house between six and 10 horses to work on the artificial racing surface." Kurt was "inspired to dream up his system because of the high rate of injuries his horses in Turkey suffered in training" (London DAILY MAIL, 5/12).
