Channel Seven To Broadcast Australian Football League In HD For Victoria

South Australian and Victorian Australian Football League supporters "relying on Channel Seven's free-to-air coverage have had a major win -- from Friday night, all matches broadcast into those states will be in high definition," according to Jon Pierik of THE AGE. Viewers have "long complained about games on Channel Seven not being broadcast in HD but they can now tune in to a new digital channel -- Channel 70 -- for this." Otherwise, they can "continue to watch in standard definition on the network's primary channel." So "strong have the calls been for the AFL to be broadcast in HD is that there is a twitter account -- @AFLinHDpls -- with more than 63,000 followers." Upon signing the new A$2.5B ($1.8B) broadcast rights deal with Foxtel and Telstra last year, Seven Chair Kerry Stokes had "flagged broadcasting games in HD at some stage this year" (THE AGE, 5/10).
