Former Charlton Athletic Sponsor Joins Fight To Remove Club Owner Roland Duchatelet

A former sponsor of League Championship side Charlton Athletic has "turned its back on the club and is now supporting protesting fans," according to Louis Sealey of THIS IS LOCAL LONDON. Axis Europe Plc. ended its commercial link with Charlton in '15 and has now made a "four-figure contribution" to the Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet. The firm will act as CARD’s “official matchday sponsor” for this weekend’s final home game of the season against Burnley, when "fans plan to once again step up their efforts" to remove Owner Duchatelet. CARD said that the company previously sponsored the players' tunnel at the Valley and provided a £15,000 ($21,732) "refurbishment of the boardroom free of charge under the former owners." Longtime fan and Axis CEO John Hayes said, "We used to be everyone's second favorite club. Now we're just a joke. As a business, you couldn't mess it up more than this if you had deliberately tried" (THIS IS LOCAL LONDON, 5/5).
