Football Notes: Former Ecuadorian Football Federation President Summoned To Trial

Ecuador's Attorney General "summoned to trial" the former Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) President Luis Chiriboga who is being investigated for alleged money laundering. Chiriboga "has been under house arrest" since December, when the Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation after the former football exec was linked to the FIFA corruption scandal, brought to light by the U.S.'s justice system. Former FEF Treasurer Hugo Mora and the federation's former accountant Pedro Vera were also summoned to trial "for their alleged involvement in the corruption case" (XINHUA, 5/5).

Mali "is organizing the first ever women national football league in the country’s history." This will present players from the 12 competing teams "with a chance to pursue professional careers." The championship "is funded by the Malian Football Federation and FIFA" (AFRICA NEWS, 5/1).
