Ligue 1 Side Montpellier To Build $148M New Football Stadium By '21

Ligue 1 side Montpellier President and city Mayor Philippe Saurel announced Wednesday the club “will replace its historic Stade de la Mosson and build a new 25,000-seat stadium” by ’20 or ’21, according to L’ÉQUIPE. Saurel said, “The city is working on a project for a new stadium. … It takes four or five years to complete a facility of this nature, between land purchases, eventual setbacks and structural elements.” Saurel said that the budget is set at €120M ($137M) to €130M ($148M) and he is “doing everything to make it a public-private partnership, with the condition that the city remains majority owner.” Two sites are already in consideration for the stadium (L’ÉQUIPE, 5/4).
