Document Reveals Olympique De Marseille's 'Dubious Transfers' Worth €64.6M

Eighteen names of former Olympique de Marseille players appear in a document published by Le Canard Enchaîné on Wednesday that describes €64.6M worth of “dubious transfers and salaries” diverted from club funds from ’09-12, according to LE MONDE. The document stems from an investigation that started in ’11. The document shows the date (from July 1, 2009 to January 31, 2012), the player names and the “estimated amount of euros lost by the club that benefited agents or intermediary officials.” The transfer of André-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse to OM in ’10 for €26.8M is “at the origin of the investigation.” As of now, a number of former club leaders “have been indicted after being investigated,” namely former club President Jean-Claude Dassier (’09-12) and former General Dir Antoine Veyrat (’08-11). In Dec. ’15 current President Vincent Labrune was “named an assisted witness,” though no charges were brought against him (LE MONDE, 5/4).
