FA Chair Greg Dyke's Reforms Getting Shelved By FA Council

FA Chair Greg Dyke’s plans for governance reforms "are being kicked into the long grass in their entirety," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. Dyke already knew that "fierce FA Council opposition would stop a lot of the much-needed changes going through, including making it more representative of all sectors of English football." But the "hope was that a start could be made" in reforming a council which enjoys the "ludicrous advantage of being able to block any modernising" through its large stakeholder majority. But "such is the blazers’ personal acrimony against Dyke over the way he has tried to introduce the reforms that all proposals will be now be shelved until after Dyke steps down in July." The decision "not to progress was made at last week’s board meeting where no consensus was reached." Ditching the reform agenda is "also a snub" to FA President Prince William, who made a "personal plea for the councillors to accept change at his 10th anniversary lunch at Wembley" (DAILY MAIL, 5/2).
