Euroleague, Eurocup Clubs Confirm New Format, Schedule Effective Next Season

Clubs from the Euroleague and Eurocup met in London and approved the format of the competitions for the '16-17 season and beyond. The decisions were agreed to by all clubs and domestic leagues, with the French league being the only exception. The regular season calendar was also discussed. In '16-17 there will be five weeks featuring two rounds of games. The clubs will play one home and one away game during those weeks (Euroleague).

ADRIATIC LEAGUE SUSPENDED: MUNDO DEPORTIVO reported FIBA Europe's Exec Committee confirmed the suspension of the Adriatic League. The "reason is the league's commitment to the Euroleague" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 5/1). AS reported FIBA Europe's Exec Committee met on Saturday in Paris, and on Sunday issued a statement explaining that it studied "the responses it had requested from 14 national basketball federations." FIBA Europe called for the federations to "clear up their initiatives," as it considers Euroleague owner ECA's position an "abusive practice." FIBA Europe "also congratulated itself for the 'total support' it received from FIBA's Exec Committee" (AS, 5/1).
