French Telecom SFR To Create Five New Pay-TV Sports Channels

A source close to French telecom SFR revealed that the company will “create five pay-TV sports channels,” according to LE PARISIEN. The channels will be run by NextRadioTV, parent company of BFMTV and of RMC, which “like SFR are a part of the Altice group.” There will be a “premium” channel, which will broadcast the English Premier League, “a multi-sports channel, another dedicated to extreme sports, one dedicated to combat sports and a fifth dedicated to 4K (high definition) events.” The channels will be available to all consumers, “not just SFR customers.” To prepare for the launch of the channels, SFR has “already hired 50 or so journalists, most of whom came from l’Équipe 21, according to another close source” (LE PARISIEN, 4/26).
