Board Of Control For Cricket In India Waives Off West Indies Cricket Board Penalty

Board of Control for Cricket in India President Shashank Manohar stated that the board "decided to waive off the financial penalty" of $42M that was imposed on the West Indies Cricket Board for pulling out midway through its '14 series against India, according to the PTI. Manohar also said that the "remaining part of that series" will be played in '17. The "ice in the bilateral relation between the two boards that had turned frosty was broken" once WICB announced that India will be touring the Caribbean for a four-Test series this summer. Manohar said, "That is now sorted out because they are going to come back and play here next year. They have to complete those [unfinished] games. That was a claim raised by the board. [We] would be satisfied by them coming and playing here" (PTI, 4/22).

NO COMMENT: CRICBUZZ reported reacting to the Lodha Committee suggestions on banning advertising in between overs and the age-cap of 70 years on the BCCI administrators, petitioner Aditya Verma remarked "no comment" against these two proposals in his submission to the Supreme Court. Verma said, "We have said no comment on the advertisement between the overs suggestion. We will also not oppose the 70-year cap suggestion." Verma criticized BCCI for "appointing a new CEO without following the guidelines prescribed by the Lodha committee" (CRICBUZZ, 4/25).

IPL OVERSEAS?: FORBES' Ayaz Memon opined will the '17 edition of the Indian Premier League "be played overseas or is that just a threat" by the BCCI? BCCI Honorary Secretary Anurag Thakur "set the cat among the pigeons last week when he said that the cash-rich T20 IPL would likely be played away from India because of the frequency of objections and hurdles to the league." It could be that Thakur "was merely expressing dismay at the way the IPL has been shoved around this season." That his statement "came because the BCCI felt it was being pushed into a corner is beyond question" (FORBES, 4/25).
