Football Notes: FIFA Reduces Ban Of Former Chile FA Head

FIFA has "reduced the ban from football issued to former official Harold Mayne-Nicholls following an appeal." The former Chilean FA head "had been found guilty of misconduct, conflict of interest and accepting gifts" after an investigation into his work as head of the Bid Evaluation Group for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, but FIFA's Appeal Committee has "since accepted that the seven-year ban was too severe." FIFA said, "The Appeal Committee deemed the sanction imposed was not proportionate to the breaches committed" (GOAL, 4/22).

The FIFA Appeal Committee has "rejected an appeal" by former All Nepal FA President Ganesh Thapa against the 10-year FIFA ban. Thapa was "slapped with a 10-year ban by the world football governing body in November from all national and international football related activities under corruption and bribery charges." He was also fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($20,440) (KATHMANDU POST, 4/24).

FIFA President Gianni Infantino "will visit South Korea next week to meet with corporate sponsors of the international football governing body." According to a source, Infantino will arrive in Seoul Wednesday and is "expected to visit the headquarters of Hyundai Motor Group before leaving the country Thursday." This is Infantino's first visit to South Korea "since he was elected FIFA's president in February" (KOREA HERALD, 4/22).
