Saint-Denis City Council Backtracks On Beer Sales At Coupe De La Ligue Final

Contrary to what was expected, the Saint-Denis city council decided to “refuse the sale of beer in the Stade de France for the Coupe de la Ligue final” between Paris St. Germain and Lille on Saturday, according to L’ÉQUIPE. In a press release, the French Football League (LFP) denounced the “unfair treatment victimizing football.” The LFP criticized the decision and said that the sale of beer is “authorized for other events organized at the Stade de France that attract a large audience, like concerts.” The sale and consumption of alcohol in sports grounds “is prohibited, without exception, under the Evin Law.” The LFP stressed that “the decision to authorize the sale of beer was taken in full agreement with the Paris Police for security reasons, to encourage the public to enter the stadium gradually and avoid too large of crowds at entry points.” LFP Sporting Activity Dir Arnaud Rouger said, “We are disappointed and we do not understand why the city of Saint-Denis changed its mind” (L’ÉQUIPE, 4/20).
