Franchise Notes: Charlton Athletic Named Johnstone's Paint Community Of The Year

League Championship side Charlton Athletic was named the Johnstone's Paint Community Club of the Year at the Football League Awards 2016. The club made the shortlist after being named the London regional winner, and beat competition from other regional winners Burnley (North West), Rotherham United (Yorkshire & North East), Cardiff City (South West & Wales), Burton Albion (Midlands) and Brighton & Hove Albion (South East). Charlton Athletic's community program has had a clear and positive impact on the Greenwich community, with 54 projects engaging over 40,000 people in '15 (Football League). 

English Championship rugby side Oldham Roughyeds head coach Scott Naylor is hoping the club's Challenge Cup run will "provide finances to help the club in the long term." In the Challenge Cup, teams "split the income that is taken on the gate after the home team has claimed expenses." Naylor: "Let's be honest, the Challenge Cup is all about trying to get as much money as we possibly can" (BBC, 4/18).
