Dundee United Rocked As Club Dir Justine Mitchell Resigns

Scottish Premiership side Dundee United was "left stunned by the shock resignation of Justine Mitchell as a club director," according to Gordon Parks of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Officials at Tannadice "have been taken aback at the timing of the decision" of the 33% stake holder to quit her position. Mitchell "opted to release her own statement through a PR firm and not through the club to confirm her decision to end her three year stint as a director with the motives behind the move unclear." The statement said, "Justine Mitchell today resigned as a Director of Dundee United Football Club with immediate effect. Mrs Mitchell remains a shareholder and fan and is committed to her work with the community and Dundee United Women’s Football Team." United "reacted to the news" by releasing its own statement which confirmed Mitchell's intention to resign from her role. It is "the latest drama" at United, which faces the prospect of being relegated from the Premiership as it sits bottom and eight points behind Kilmarnock. Mitchell "previously championed the need for more women to take a role within football boardroom’s but last September her brother Stephen insisted his own traumatic experiences on the Tannadice board would deter her from increasing her involvement in the club" (DAILY RECORD, 4/17).
