Olympic Notes: More Than 32,000 Tickets Sold For Rio 2016 Football Tournaments

Organizers said that "more than 32,000 tickets were sold for the Rio 2016 men's and women's football tournaments within 24 hours of the competition draw." Rio 2016 Ticketing Chief Donovan Ferreti said that "the figure was about 32 times greater than the daily average before Thursday's draw -- which determined who would play against who, and where." Ferreti said, "There was a significant increase in sales after the groups were defined and it seems demand is going to get higher" (IANS, 4/16).

The Int'l Paralympic Committee Governing Board approved the powerlifting and track cycling venues that will be used for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, bringing the total number of approved venues to 21. The decision on the venues for football 5-a-side and road cycling will be made following the outcome of studies by the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee (IPC).

Japan's National Diet "enacted legislation to increase the number of specialists with skills to counter cyberattacks ahead of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo." The legislation "will also expand the scope of entities subject to vulnerability checks following a massive leak of personal data from the Japan Pension Service last year" (KYODO, 4/17).
