West Ham Co-Owner Responds To Olympic Stadium Deal Criticism

EPL side West Ham United co-Owner David Sullivan said that envy and jealousy are "behind the criticism" aimed at the club ahead of its move to the Olympic Stadium next season, according to Tom Thorogood of HITC SPORT. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger recently suggested that "the Hammers have won the lottery in regards to their stadium move," with the Gunners having to shell out £400M ($568M) on the Emirates Stadium. West Ham's expenditure on its new stadium "pales in comparison, and the financial benefits of making the switch from the Boleyn Ground could now help the East Londoners become a powerhouse in England." Sullivan: "It is jealousy and envy, which is a British trait. They love to pull people down, they love to moan. I think there is jealousy for West Ham. The deal we have done for our stadium mirrors the deal for the Etihad stadium in Manchester. It is a similar deal, that is what it is based on" (HITC SPORT, 4/15).
