Football Notes: Chelsea Captain John Terry Will Pay For Young Fan's Funeral

Chelsea captain John Terry will "pay for the funeral of an 8-year-old fan who died of leukemia last month." The former England captain and other Chelsea players "met Tommi Miller at Stamford Bridge following a game last year." Terry, who is currently injured, said that he was "devastated" to hear of Miller's death, and wants the child to get "the send-off he deserves." The child's mother, Ruth said, "I'm overwhelmed really, because Tommi was such a great fan of John Terry in particular" (AP, 4/12).

The Asian Football Confederation said that Indonesia, currently serving a FIFA ban, is "one of the four countries vying to host the 2023 Asian Cup." The AFC Competitions Committee said that it "received expression of interests" from China, Thailand and South Korea as well as Indonesia, banned almost a year ago for political interference in the local FA. The quartet that met the March 31 deadline "will now have to provide government guarantees, legal opinion on their bids and enter into a bidding agreement" (REUTERS, 4/12).
