The IAAF's Ethics Committee rejected former Athletics Kenya CEO ISAAC KAMANDE MWANGI's appeal "against his provisional six-month ban for violating anti-doping controls." The punishment was handed out by the IAAF in February after Mwangi "was accused of seeking bribes to reduce the doping bans of two athletes" (REUTERS, 4/8). ... JULIEN HOFERLIN, a former Belgian Davis Cup captain who also helped coach the British team, "died on Friday at the age of 49 following treatment for cancer." Hoferlin, who worked for Belgian public broadcaster RTBF as a consultant and had coached with Britain's Lawn Tennis Association until '14, "underwent major surgery on a brain tumour shortly before the two teams he had been involved with met in the Davis Cup final in Ghent last November" (REUTERS, 4/8). ... National Rugby League side Cronulla "is investi­gating a frightening incident at the end of its game against the Gold Coast" after the three-year-old son of forward CHRIS HEIGHINGTON "was run over by a buggy as players celebrated victory over the Titans at Cronulla." Sharks players "broke from their celebrations, sprinting to the buggy" and lifting it off ROCCO HEIGHINGTON "before he was ­carried off the field" by his mother, SONYA. He "was cleared of serious ­injury after being treated by paramedics in the Sharks dressing rooms." Heighington "was too shaken to speak afterwards, but the club confirmed an investigation into the incident" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 4/11).
