American Buyers Reportedly Will Close Deal For Notts County Sale Soon

The sale of League Two side Notts County "is close to completion," according to Leigh Curtis of the NOTTINGHAM POST. Talks with the "mystery new owners have progressed significantly over the last few days with a deal for the world's oldest professional football club said to be imminent." An announcement could even take place on Friday as Owner Ray Trew prepares to hand over the Magpies nearly six years after buying the club for £1 "in the wake of the Munto fiasco in 2010." The identity of the new owners is being "kept a closely guarded secret, but it was revealed last month how an American consortium was keen on securing the Magpies." Trew had initially put the club up for sale in February having "cited fans' abuse aimed at his family for his decision to step down as chairman." Danish, Chinese and American businessmen were all linked with the club as was local businessman and Paragon Group CEO Alan Hardy, "who had been the only buyer to make his interest public" (NOTTINGHAM POST, 4/6).
