Event Notes: Lawn Tennis Association Announces Changes To Grass Court Season

The Lawn Tennis Association and The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon, announced changes to the British grass court season in the lead up to The Championships. The main changes for the '17 calendar include the following:

  • The LTA, in partnership with Nottingham City Council, will now stage a one-week tournament with the women’s $250,000 WTA Int'l Aegon Open Nottingham amalgamating with a men’s $100,000 ATP Challenger Tour event.
  • From '17, the pre-existing ATP World Tour 250 Aegon Open Nottingham event will move back to Eastbourne, merging with the WTA Premier Aegon Int'l to form a combined event.
  • There will be a substantial investment into the upgrading of the Aegon Trophy Series (ATP Challenger & ITF Women’s Pro Circuit) grass court events. There will be a doubling of prize money from $300,000 to over $600,000 in '17 (LTA).
The Int'l Cricket Council announced the schedule for the ICC Intercontinental Cup and ICC World Cricket League Championship matches to be held in India and Nepal later this month, featuring Afghanistan, Namibia and Nepal. In the ICC Intercontinental Cup, Afghanistan and Namibia will play the final match of the third round from April 10-13 at the Greater Noida Cricket Stadium, in the outskirts of Delhi. This stadium is now regarded as the home stadium for all Afghanistan matches, after an agreement was signed between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ICC).
