Boca Juniors Acquires Land Next To La Bombonera Stadium

Argentine first division side Boca Juniors announced it purchased land adjacent to its La Bombonera stadium, according to the EFE. Club President Daniel Angelici has previously indicated that the stadium "could be renovated or replaced by a new one." The club's acquisition of 32,000 square meters of land -- which currently has no building -- was approved by 126 of 210 representatives. Boca Juniors will pay a sum of €12M ($13.7M) on a "long-term payment plan." The team's stadium, built in '40, currently has a capacity of 49,000. The "reasons to consider renovating the stadium or building a new one start with the huge number of club members." With nearly 70,000 fans on a wait list for season tickets, Boca Juniors execs "feel obligated to find a solution" (EFE, 4/1).
