Women's Australian Football League Gets Television Coverage Boost

In a "triple treat" for women's football, TV coverage of the women's game "has multiplied by three overnight," according to Sam McClure of THE AGE. The Australian Football League will on Friday "announce three women's exhibition games will be broadcast by Fox Sports." Previously, Channel Seven has "screened one women's game between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, last August." The matches will see "the country's best female talent on show to pay TV subscribers ahead of next year's inaugural national competition." The move is "another big coup" for women's football ahead of the launch of a national league in '17. Four teams are expected to be based in Victoria, where the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne lead the way, while it was reported this month that Collingwood, Geelong and Carlton have "also made strong cases to the league." Adelaide and Brisbane "look likely to be two of the four interstate teams, with the two other are expected to come from Western Australia and NSW" (THE AGE, 3/31).
