League Championship Side Queens Park Rangers Posts $66M Loss In '14-15

League Championship side Queens Park Rangers reported a "substantial pre-tax loss" of £45.7M ($66M) for the year to May 31, according to David Owen of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The loss is "the biggest yet reported" by a team playing in the Premier League in '14-15 -- QPR was relegated after the season -- and takes cumulative losses posted by the club in the past four seasons to more than £140M ($201M). The club, majority-owned by Tony Fernandes and partners, "looks condemned to at least one more season away from the big time." Turnover more than doubled to £85.9M ($123M), "largely due to surging broadcasting income, but the cost-base was such" that this was only sufficient to restrict operating losses to £46.5M ($66.8M). This was "even though aggregate payroll costs actually fell slightly" from £75.4M to £72.9M ($104.8M). Air Asia chipped in £2.5M ($3.6M) during the year as a fee for "sponsoring the club’s well-known blue and white hooped shirts," up from £350,000 in '13-14. Net debt stood at £193.4M ($278M) (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 3/31).
