Marketplace Roundup: Tag Heuer Becomes Socceroos' Official Watch Supplier

Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer will "become the official watch supplier and timekeeper of the Caltex Socceroos," Australia's men's football team, as part of a new partnership with Football Federation of Australia. The deal, which will run for an initial four years, "will see Tag Heuer benefit from on-field signage at home games, off-field team kit sponsorship and substitution board branding." The firm "will also sponsor the Fox Sports broadcast of Socceroos games" (SOCCEREX, 3/30).

TIRE DEAL: Taiwanese tire manufacturer Kenda Tires signed a deal with Serie A marketing partner Infront for on-field advertising at the homes of six of the Italian football league’s "biggest teams." The company will "have a presence on advertising hoardings on all four perimeter edges at Fiorentina, Lazio, Roma, Sampdoria, Udinese and CFC Genoa home games." The deal "was struck by Kenda’s exclusive Italian partner, Gruppo Sirio." Earlier this year, Kenda signed a sponsorship deal with the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers (SOCCEREX, 3/30).

MARKETING BRIEFS ...
Russian telecom Megafon "signed an agreement with the Russian Football Union." Under the agreement the operator has "become the general sponsor" of the RFU for '16-18 (TELECOM PAPER, 3/28).

Egyptian football side Al Ahly announced a "new partnership with Chinese electronics manufacturer Huawei." The firm becomes the club's new telecom partner. It will also be the "chest sponsor for the team's playing shirts, with its logo sitting just above that of Vodafone, the main front-of-shirt sponsor" (SOCCEREX, 3/30).

Dorna World SuperBike Organization announced tire supplier Pirelli will increase its involvement in the FIM SuperBike World Championship by becoming the event main sponsor of the WorldSBK rounds at MotorLand Aragón, at the Lausitzring in Germany and on the Riviera di Rimini at Misano World Circuit in Italy. The rounds will consequently be named the Pirelli Aragón Round, the Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round and the Pirelli German Round. Pirelli has been the sole tire supplier to WorldSBK since '04 (WSBK). 

Nippon Telephone and Telecommunications has become a first-time sponsor of the Subic Bay International Triathlon’s Asia Cup Series. Apart from NTT, Century Tuna, Standard Insurance, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation, Subic Holiday Villas, ACEA Subic Bay, Biker’s Cafe, Blackbeard’s Seafood Island, The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Enervon Active, AH Cabgel, AH Enervon HP and Athena are backing the event (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 3/30).

Singapore's Constant Wind Seasports and Sailing School has "sponsored sailing boats" valued at 2.5B dong ($108,700) for the Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing & Sailing Federation. The boats are produced under Int'l Sailing Federation standards and "can compete in the Olympic and Asian Games events" (VIETNAM NEWS, 3/30).

Evian announced that 18-year-old golfer Lydia Ko is a new global sports ambassador for the brand (Evian). 

A number of social media users have "suggested that ads for warfare computer game World of Tanks during Saturday's football match between England and Germany were inappropriate, ill-advised, or in some cases amusing." During the game, won 3-2 by England in Berlin's Olympiastadion, "advertisements for the computer game were prominent on TV" (BRAND REPUBLIC, 3/29).
