Int'l Sponsorship Of Motorsports To Total $5.58B In '16, IEG Research Shows

IEG research found that global sponsorship spending on motorsports sanctioning bodies, teams and tracks is expected to total $5.58B in '16, a 2.8% increase from '15. Pressured by a decline in spending in Formula 1, the increase lags IEG’s projected 4.7% increase in overall global sponsorship spending. Without F1, spending is expected to keep pace with the overall sponsorship industry. IEG Sponsorship Report senior editor William Chipps said, "Declining viewership has significantly impacted corporate interest in F1, but overall interest in motorsports remains strong." Red Bull is the most active sponsor of F1. The energy drink is 15.5 times more likely to sponsor F1 than the average of all sponsors, per IEG. Philip Morris (14.2) is the second most active sponsor followed by Pirelli (14.1) in a close third. Automobile manufacturers (6.2) represent the most active category sponsoring F1. Non-alcoholic beverages (4.9) are the most active non-endemic (IEG).
