Media Notes: StarHub Named Official Broadcaster Of Singapore Sevens

StarHub has been announced as the official broadcaster of the World Rugby Singapore Sevens. As part of the four-year partnership, StarHub will broadcast the Singapore Sevens live on Singapore's only free sports channel, SuperSports Arena. All the other legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series will also be broadcast on StarHub's in-house SuperSports channels. These channels "can be accessed on multiple devices including TVs, laptops, tablets and phones" (STRAITS TIMES, 3/28).

Journalist Rebecca Maddern has been named the new co-host of Channel Nine's The Footy Show. She will join James Brayshaw and Sam Newman on the long-running program. Maddern "had a 13-year career at Channel Seven before making the switch." The Footy Show has been criticized over the years for "being blokey and at times sexist," so the appointment of a woman to a hosting position "will be viewed by many as a notable change in direction" (THE AGE, 3/29).

English broadcaster Sky Sports News "was fooled" on Sunday night when presenter Pete Graves held a telephone interview "with a person the production team believed to be" EPL side Stoke City goalkeeper Shay Given. The channel was attempting to get Given's reaction, but "instead of putting through the man with 133 Republic of Ireland caps to his name, a high pitched prankster was sent live instead" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/29).
