Olympic Notes: Vizer Says Judo Has Nothing To Fear From Russian Scandals

Int'l Judo Federation President Marius Vizer said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's favorite sport of judo "is not in danger of becoming embroiled in the doping scandals rocking Russian sport in the run up to this year's Rio Olympics." Vizer: "We are not afraid because judo has specific values and in the field of integrity our sport is paying a lot of attention. We don’t have in the last years any kind of doping cases with Russian athletes and I consider our sport safe among the other sports" (REUTERS, 3/22).

Rome claimed that 474,000 companies "will support the Italian capital's bid for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics" after organizers received the backing of the city's Chamber of Commerce. Rome 2024 President Luca di Montezemolo met with Chamber of Commerce President Lorenzo Tagliavanti "to discuss working together in the battle for the Games." If successful, a host of companies which are members of the Rome Chamber "will play key roles in delivering the Olympics and Paralympics in eight years' time" (REUTERS, 3/23).
