Sky Announces Price Rises For Television Packages For Summer 2016

Sky announced prices of all of its TV packages "will be rising from June 1 onward," with a Sky spokesperson saying new content was the reason for the price rises, but not explicitly mentioning EPL football, according to Thomas Newton of RECOMBU. The broadcaster and broadband provider said that it will raise prices by less than £3 ($4)/month. The announcement comes days after it was "let slip" that Sky 4K channels would be arriving "in the summer," prompting speculation that the '16-17 Premier League will be the first one broadcast in Ultra HD by Sky. Sky’s also spent a lot of money on football rights, essentially £1.3B ($1.8B) a year for the next three seasons. This "will see it up the number of games" it is able to show from 116-126 (RECOMBU, 3/21).
