The NFL has not shied away from expanding its reach overseas. The league is returning to Mexico City in '16 and has been open about its aspirations to go above and beyond its second home in England. According to NFL Media's Albert Breer, that could involve a regular-season game in China as early as '18 and Germany in '17. A visit to China would be the league's boldest undertaking to date. The NFL had plans to play in China back in '07 in a game that was tentatively rescheduled to '09 but ended up never coming to fruition. NFL Media's Judy Battista noted that no vote would be necessary by owners to approve the China game, as it already authorized the scheduling of more int'l games (NFL). NBC SPORTS' Josh Alper wrote a "handful of teams have already expressed interest in playing a game in Asia, which doesn't come as much surprise." China is a "massive market that represents an area where both the league and individual teams can grow interest and sell merchandise that would continue to grow revenue" (NBC SPORTS, 3/21). NFL spokesperson Michael Signora added, "We are completing a detailed analysis of playing a regular-season game in China as early as 2018" (HJ Mai, SBD Global).
