League Championship Side Bolton Wanderers' Tax Litigation Ends In High Court

Tax litigation involving "struggling" League Championship side Bolton Wanderers "has come to an end at the High Court," according to the BOLTON NEWS. The club announced last week it had paid the £2.2M ($3.2M) bill -- and Registrar Clive Jones "dismissed the winding-up petition" from U.K. tax authority HMRC on Monday. Inland Revenue officials "wanted Bolton wound up after complaining" the football club owed more than £2M ($2.9M). The Sports Shield consortium fronted by former player Dean Holdsworth then took control of the club. Before the takeover, the club "tried to solve some of its short-term funding issues by selling off assets such as offices at the Macron Stadium, allowing them to pay part of the players' December wages" (BOLTON NEWS, 3/21).
