French Professional Football League (LFP) General Dir Didier Quillot on Tuesday announced that the French Competition Authority “has launched a review process into the beIN-Canal+ agreement” to allow Canal+ subscribers access to all of beIN Sports content, according to 20 MINUTES. Quillot said, “The Competition Authority has launched a consultation into the beIN-Canal+ agreement. So I, along with the league clubs, will work on analyzing the questions they have asked us.” Quillot’s predecessor, Jean-Pierre Hugues, with whom Quillot will work in tandem for another month, explained that the Authority sent the LFP “a questionnaire that is a market test,” in which “the league will give its opinion, in a detailed manner, to the questions formulated by the Authority.” Hugues: “This is not the first time that they have done this. This was the case, for example, in the TPS/Canal+ merger, though there is a slightly different legal framework because it is not a complete merger, instead it is an exclusive distribution agreement” (20 MINUTES, 3/15).
