Spanish second division side Albacete announced that it hired Manager CÉSAR FERRANDO as its replacement for LUIS CÉSAR SAMPEDRO. The club lost to Zaragoza on Saturday, its ninth consecutive game without a victory. Albacete is currently in 20th place in its 22-team league (MARCA, 3/13). ... DOUGIE FREEDMAN "has been sacked" as manager of League Championship side Nottingham Forest. The club, which was expected to be pushing for promotion this season, has lost five of its last six matches and was "beaten 3-0 by 10-man Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday." The club said in a statement, "First-team coach PAUL WILLIAMS will take over the management of the side until the end of the season" (London DAILY MAIL, 3/13). ... European Professional Football Leagues President FRÉDÉRIC THIRIEZ has decided to quit his position with the EPFL to put more focus on his last year as French Professional Football League president. A founding member since its inception in ’05, VP from ’07 and president since ’13, Thiriez has asked the board to replace him. He recommended Swedish League President and former UEFA General Secretary LARS-CHRISTER OLSSON to replace him (LFP). ... Former telecom Orange Dir DIDIER QUILLOT was chosen “as the future general director for the French Professional Football League (LFP).” His appointment “will be made official after a vote by the administrative council” on Tuesday. Quillot was chosen over former Paris St. Germain President ROBIN LEPROUX. Quillot will replace current LFP General Dir JEAN-PIERRE HUGUES (L’ÉQUIPE, 3/11).
