League Notes: Super League Rugby Side Salford Owner Will 'Go For All-Out War'

Super League Rugby side Salford Owner Marwan Koukash said that he will "go for all-out war" if the club is deducted points for breaching the salary cap. The Rugby Football League charged the team "earlier this month." It could be docked up to 20 points "if found guilty at an RFL independent tribunal, on a date yet to be set." Koukash also "insisted his actions in gifting 2015 player of the year Niall Evalds with a Maserati car were carried out within the regulations" (BBC, 3/10).

Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton asked the fans "to decide whether a new knockout qualifying format is a winner." F1 sets out for Australia this weekend for the first grand prix of the season, but the event in Melbourne "will be overcast with uncertainty about the new qualifying system that seem to stumble onto the sport’s agenda." Hamilton: "What is most important is how the fans feel about it. I have generally enjoyed the format of the last few years. That's why it doesn't make sense to me right now, the changes that have been made, but don't knock it until you try it" (LONDON TIMES, 3/10).
