Mexico City will host its first Formula E ePrix this Saturday at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The fifth round of the ’15-16 season will be contested on an 18 turn, 2.1km track layout -- the shortest on this year’s Formula E calendar -- over 43 laps. The venue, which welcomed more than 330,000 spectators to the Mexican F1 Grand Prix last year, will have a capacity of around 40,000 for Saturday’s electric racing debut. Formula E declined to provide any information regarding ticket sales in advance of the event. However, checking available ticket inventory on Ticketmaster, the event’s official ticketing provider, SBD Global found there are still plenty of seats available along the main grandstand. On the sponsorship front, the series’ official partners, including Julius Baer, DHL, Tag Heuer and Qualcomm, will receive branding along the track, hospitality area and eVillage. Formula E did not answer questions about the search for local partners. The series selected Mexican media and entertainment company CIE as its local event promoter. CIE was also the local promoter for the F1 race, which returned to Mexico City last November after 23 years. Swiss driver Sébastien Buemi currently leads the drivers standings with 80 points. His Renault e.Dams teams sits on top of the team standings with 101 after four races. The race is scheduled to start at 4pm CST on Saturday and will put an end to a full day of racing that kicks off at 8:15am CST.
SBD Global will be on the ground to cover Formula E's inaugural Mexico City ePrix.
