Franchise Notes: Court Adjourns Winding-Up Petition Against Bolton Wanderers

A winding-up petition against League Championship side Bolton Wanderers "has again been adjourned at the High Court" to give Dean Holdsworth's consortium time "to complete a takeover." The Football League "has given approval" for Holdsworth's Sports Shield group to complete a £7.5M ($10.7M) purchase of the Championship's bottom side. However, they "have not yet been able to prove they have the funds to buy the club" from Owner Eddie Davies (BBC, 3/7).

Sauber confirmed that the F1 team has not paid its staff "in full for the month of February." The cash-strapped squad is "regularly the subject of speculation surrounding their financial health" and along with Force India "have complained to the European Union about F1's prize money distribution." Swiss newspaper Blick quoted Team Principal Monisha Kalternborn as saying, "Part of the February salaries is pending. I regret that immensely" (SKY SPORTS, 3/7).

Italian third-division side Foggia has "threatened to pull out of the league after an angry confrontation" with its fans upon returning home from a 3-0 defeat at local rival Andria on Saturday. A group of between 100 and 150 hooligans "were reported to have awaited the team as they arrived back in the Apulian city." As the bus doors were opened, several of the hooligans "are said to have entered the bus and started lashing out at the players, some using bats." The team was "driven away and spent the night at a secret location out of fear of reprisals" (ESPN, 3/7).
