League Notes: PGA, LPGA Formalize Strategic Alliance Agreement

The two biggest tours in men's and women's golf "have opened up the possibility of holding joint tournaments in the near future after the PGA and LPGA formalised a long-term strategic alliance agreement on Friday." The partnership between the U.S.-based tours covers schedule coordination, joint marketing programs, domestic TV representation, digital media and exploring the potential development of joint events, "the latter already being explored by their European equivalents" (REUTERS, 3/5).

The National Rugby League confirmed that both the Canberra Raiders and Penrith Panthers "opted against a drinks break despite their players complaining" they were not afforded the opportunity in near 40 degree Celsius heat on Saturday. Panthers player Jamie Soward "took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to express his concerns over the health of the players who played in sweltering conditions at GIO Stadium." However, the NRL insists that "the club medical officers of both clubs" reached an agreement not to have a drinks break (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/6).
