Football Notes: Argentine FA To Have Women Announce Lineups

This weekend, each Argentine first division football game will begin with a woman calling out the lineups of both teams over stadium loudspeakers. In honor of Int'l Women's Day on Tuesday, Argentine football is doing this "to eliminate the chauvinist halo that surrounds the role women play in the sport" (AFP, 3/3).

Argentine FA President Luis Segura reiterated the possibility of a joint bid by Argentina and Uruguay for the 2030 World Cup. Segura said, "We are going to propose to [FIFA President Gianni] Infantino the desire to host the 2030 World Cup. I believe that this is a World Cup that South America deserves and we have to work to earn it" (CLARÍN, 3/2).
